We were expecting to close this blog on 6th May 2010, along with the election, but, since the election hasn't ended yet, neither will the blog. May as well add a few points!

8. TRANSPORT

Major local employers like Hospitals and County Halls should provide shift-related transport for their staff.

Sounds fair to me. I also think they should provide FREE parking for those who have appointments at a hospital.
Charging cancer patients is an absolute disgrace.

If fewer staff needed to bring cars to work there would be more space for patients and visitors. There would be less traffic on the roads too. Some hospitals employ lots of people.

Transport for staff wouldn't help everywhere but there was a survey of cars between Weymouth and Dorchester a while back and I understand the results showed a large number workers from the hospital and county hall were contributing to what was serious congestion.

Lucy, dare I say it? Hospitals employ far too many people. As you say, each have a car and require a space to park. My experience of hospitals is that they are over-run with non-medical staff. Managers, secretaries, form fillers, box tickers, IT managers, data input clerks... I could go on and on. These are jobs created to get people off the unemployed list simply to keep the figures looking good. There is a shortage of doctors and nurses, don't you think, not clerical staff.
Can't blame the eu this time I suppose, but something is not right.

Talking of Dorchester is far more interesting than talking of politics.
How I love that Market, especially the indoor bit with all those bric-a-brac stalls. And stalls selling Blue Vinny cheese and Dorset Knobs. Oh to be in Dorset and not stuck up here in the overcrowded South-East.

And Swanage .... and Corfe and ...steam trains.
I need a lie down to recover!
Cheers.... Bernard.
